First Communion
What is First Reconciliation?
First Reconciliation is an important step in our faith journey, especially for young children. It allows them to experience God’s love and forgiveness for the first time in a special way. As they learn in Sunday school, we all make mistakes and sometimes stray from our friendship with God. Through Reconciliation, children understand that God is always ready to welcome them back and help them grow closer to Him.
Before they receive their First Communion in Second Grade, experiencing this sacrament helps them prepare their hearts to fully embrace the love and grace that comes with receiving Jesus in the Eucharist. It’s a beautiful way for them to recognize God’s endless mercy and develop a lifelong habit of seeking forgiveness and building a strong relationship with Him.
What is First Communion?
First Communion is a significant and joyful milestone for children in Second Grade, or older who have completed at least two years of Religious Education. During these years, they will have learned about Jesus’ immense love for us and the sacrifice He made through His death and resurrection. This education helps them understand that, through the Eucharist, they are receiving Jesus’ body and blood as a source of spiritual nourishment and understanding His presence in their lives as the source and summit of the Christian Faith. CCC 1324
By the time they receive their First Communion, children have been taught the importance of being part of the Church community. They learn how the Eucharist not only strengthens their relationship with Jesus but also unites them with the entire Church family. It’s a way for them to be active participants in their faith, growing in love and service to others. This sacrament helps them experience the joy of being a part of God’s family and encourages them to live out their faith in everyday life.
